Irish employers have revealed that there has been a recent increase in the number of job applicants looking to return to their homeland from overseas.

Between January and March, CPL’s Employment Market Monitor learnt that the UK, Canada and Australia are the three countries from which Irish citizens are looking to return from, while 63 per cent of companies that took part in the survey revealed that they were taking on more staff to contribute to growth over the coming year.

CPL director Peter Cosgrove explained that it was not uncommon for Irish people to live overseas for a period of time before returning with international experience and the skills needed to take up jobs in their homeland.

He went on to say that over the past 12 months there had been a lot of talk about certain sectors that didn’t have enough personnel for the jobs on offer which, he admitted, was a “positive complaint”. He added that this had led to people realising they could return to their country of birth and get the good jobs that they want.

The report also revealed that more than 50 per cent of bosses had found discretions on the CVs of would be employees, which Cosgrave said would more likely lead to their dismissal within a few months of taking on the job.
