Immigration New Zealand accused of running a visa factory

Earlier this week, a New Zealand member of parliament accused the Kiwi immigration authority of becoming a rubber-stamping visa factory guilty of serious errors.

The Right Honorable Winston Peters claimed that anyone and everyone was being let in in order to cover up the number of NZ citizens who are emigrating. Peters asked the Prime Minister why he had not sacked the Immigration Minister for his placing of quantity before quality of immigrants.

According to Peters, the results of INZ’s own internal quality assurance surveys revealed that over 20 per cent of immigration decisions were unsatisfactory. Calling the results an indication of deliberate incompetence, he added that the minister would have been well aware that thousands of questionable migrants were being let in.

In addition, he continued, immigration officials are ignoring stated policies, operating a quota system and simply rubber-stamping applications to please politicians. Information from immigration departments, he said, confirms the fact that low-quality migrants are costing the taxpayer dear and contributing to high unemployment numbers.

Still on the attack, Peters hit out at the waste of taxpayers’ money involved in flying 30 attendees from various world countries to a Wellington conference lavishly hosted with food and drink. His final comment was that it was time to bring the present day culture of disrespect, carelessness and abuse under control.
