Emigrating to Cyprus

Emigrating to Cyprus
Immigration to Cyprus is always subject to changes from time to time. This makes it necessary for people who want to work and live or even visit here to check on the Cyprus embassy in their country for updated information on requirements for entry as well as residency. This is especially true for citizens of countries that are not under the European Union who are planning to visit or move to Cyprus permanently.

Any European citizen, on the other hand, can enter Cyrus as they wish, as long as they have a valid passport or an identity ID. This is because on May 2004, the Greek half of Cyprus was already made part of the European Union. EU citizens can then go into Cyprus even without a prior employment contract and look for employment in the nation for up to three months. Once these EU citizens have found gainful employment, they should contact the Department of the Migration that is under the Ministry of Interior of Cyprus. This is so that they can be registered and get the necessary permit.

If an EU citizen intends to work in Cyprus for more than 3 months, then they should obtain a residence permit by applying for it with the Civil Registration and Migration Department. This is done through the local Immigration Branch of the Police. Once employment has been found, their recruitment statement must then be stamped by the Department of Labour of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance – Cyprus. These citizens are still subject to the same taxes and deductions as Cyprus citizens, according to the European legislation.
