Immigrating to Antigua

Immigrating to Antigua
If you are planning to migrate to Antigua by virtue of employment, then you must secure a work permit that has been issued by the Minister or on his behalf. This is because it an immigration policy in the land that no foreign national can engage in self-employment or employment in Antigua and Barbuda unless a work permit has been secured.

Application or renewal of a work permit can be done before the Employment Service of the Labour Department. You have to pay a fee of ten dollars for an application or renewal of a work permit. The process of applying for a work permit calls for the filing of two sets of forms done in triplicate as well as the payment of the fee. When and if the application has been recommended, a bill will then be issued, which you will take to the Labour Department and a permission of work letter will be given to you. After having received this letter, expect to be instructed to return to the department after one or two weeks to get the signed work permit.

Once your application has been received, you have to expect for an investigation to be conducted by the Chief of the Employment Service. This investigation will look into the conditions that surround any work permit application. After this, a report, along with its recommendations, will be filed to the Minister, who will be responsible for making the decision on whether you should get the work permit or not. Certain conditions are also expected to be set along with the granting of the work permit.
