Illegal Emigrant Sent to Prison for Raping 18 Year Old Girl

Many reports are now popping up around the net about an illegal emigrant that has been sent to prison for raping an 18-year-old girl at a holiday camp where they worked together. The emigrant, Merhawi Ghebe, age 30 from Eritrea, had at first denied the offense at the Gwynedd camp, but later pleaded guilty after DNA evidence came to light.

On top of the four and a half year prison term that Merhawi Ghebe will have to serve, he will also now be placed on the sex offenders register for life. Caernafon Crown Court also heard that Ghebe could be deported from the UK after he is released from prison. Ghebe had first told police that the girl had pulled him onto a bed and asked him for a hug. He had denied any kind of sexual contact. However, John Philpoots, the prosecutor, said that DNA evidence now proves that this was a lie.

During this time the court also heard that Ghebe had been to jail before this as well. He had originally served a nine month sentence in jail at Isleworth crown court in November of 2007 for having a false identity document. After he was released from jail, his friend found him work at a Pwllheli kebab shop. After that, for about the last year, he was employed at the camp. John Wyn Williams, defending, said that Ghebe has been moved to Britain from Eritrea after being in Italy. It may be that, in due course, he will be deported.

With all of the recent talks about emigrants and the big fight that the UK is taking against them, this is a story that does nothing to help the cause. This shows that illegal emigrants are still living and working in the UK.
