Lord Carey Makes Plea Over UK Emigration Numbers
It now seems that new emigrants that are coming to Britain should have an understanding of the country’s Christian heritage, according to former Archbishop of Canterbury. Lord Carey is among 19 other MP’s and peers that are backing a call for the major parties to make a commitment in their general election manifestos not to allow the UK’s population to reach over 70 million.
In a recent interview, Lord Carey went on to stress that he was not calling for a ban on non-Christian emigrants settling in Britain. He did go on to warn that, if the concerns about the level and nature of emigration were not addressed at some point, it would simply play into the hands of the far right British National party.
He said that what he thinks is that they must call for an understanding on the part of those who come into the country that they are coming into one which values parliamentary democracy, which is built upon the Christian heritage of the UK. He said that they have got to understand that the UK is committed to the English language, and they should understand the history of the UK.
Lord Carey said that the parliamentary Cross party group on Balanced Migration was not arguing for an outright ban on new emigration, but did believe that there needs to be a reasonable limit on the number that are coming into the country. He went on to say that the BNP was already making political capital out of the sense of unfairness that many people felt over the issue.
