It appears now that some experts are claiming that the number of cases of AIDS in the UK is on the rise, and this could be due to emigration. Many emigrants making their way from Sub-Saharan Africa have apparently been the primary drivers of the AIDS pandemic that is sweeping the UK.

This new research, which was conducted by postgraduate student Betselot Mulugeta, has shown that emigrant men and women from the Ethiopian and Eritrean communities in the West Midlands have serious misconceptions about the nature of the AIDS epidemic in the UK. Newly reported cases of HIV in the UK are higher than ever before.

Between 1995 and 2006, the rate of HIV infection among black Africans in the West Midlands actually increased 100 fold when compared to a two fold increase among white people, a three fold increase among black Caribbeans and a six fold increase among other mixed ethnic groups.

All of the figures were released in the study after being obtained from the region’s strategic health authority figures. The new study went on to reveal that the Ethiopian and Eritrean population are predominantly young and single and tend to live alone and are often sexually active.

The study showed that Africans in Britain believe that the UK was civilized, and therefore, they could not contract the AIDS virus. Thus, they were under the impression that the problem had been left behind in Africa. The report also showed that some emigrants even commented that they believed that they were screened for the virus before leaving Africa. Some also thought that the UK had some kind of “cure” for AIDS.
