Illegal Israeli workers deported from the UK

Eight illegal Israeli workers have been deported from the UK this week after were found to be selling beauty and hair products to Christmas shoppers at Cribbs Causeway.

Officers from the UK Border Agency, acting on a tip off, went to the two stalls in The Mall, Cribbs Causeway on Tuesday lsat week, where they found a woman and three men working at a stall called Dead Sea, while a further four Israeli nationals were arrested at the Amica hair styling stall.

The eight illegal employees were all aged in their 20s and taken to Trinity Road, Southmead and Staple Hill police stations for further questioning to be carried out, where it was discovered that the group had entered the UK on a visitors visa that did not give them the right to work.

They were detained before being deported back to Israel on Wednesday.

The Mall will not be subjected to any penalties.

Regional director for the UK Border Agency in Wales and the South West, Jane Farleigh said that they would not turn a blind eye to foreign nationals working in the UK without authorisation.

She pointed out that illegal employees undercut honest employers and takes jobs from those who are genuinely entitled to work.

She also said if people from abroad wanted to work in the UK legitimately, the can apply through the points-based system set out for migration.

The operation was part of a crackdown on illegal workers and coincides with a large-scale campaign by the UK Border Agency warning employers of the sanctions they could face if they employ illegal foreign labour.
