Immigration aiding UK economy

While concerns about the number of citizens from UK have been growing, a recent study has shown that with the help of the current boost in foreign workers taking up residency in the UK has actually helped the British economy by almost 1,650 pounds a person. The Home Office Statisticians which conducted the survey found that three hundred pounds of the GDP growth in Britain last year was tied directly to the growing immigration. In fact, since immigration has been on the rise over the last nine years, the research has shown each year the more foreign workers, the stronger the economy was getting.

Original studies regarding the burst of immigration into the United Kingdom originally thought that the economy would suffer in the forms of smaller wages as well as higher unemployment rates. This study proved the opposite to be the case. The statisticians commented about the study, “Migration supports growth in GDP per head by allowing employers greater choice in a wider labor market, ensuring an improved matched between vacancies and available labor.”

In addition to helping increase the economy, the influx of foreign workers to the British job market has also helped increase the available skills and standards in all different markets. The research released was an attempt to counter recent critics including the House of Lords economic committee which had commented earlier in the year that immigration had not made an impact on the economy. The statisticians’ rebuttal was clear in the research that the new foreign workers have assisted by creating a solid positive contribution to the economy.
