Liverpool UKBA staff moving in their thousands
Some two thousand staff from the UK Border Agency will be brought together under one roof following a move in Liverpool to consolidate the teams at one central location.
A new lease has been signed off on which will see the immigration officials team move from their current locations at six different buildings in the city into a new office in the commercial centre of Liverpool that has a whopping 220,000 sq ft of space available. The property development group Downing has backed the move with an investment of around £15 million after acquiring the site back in 2006. The building is located at The Capital which also features a range of lifestyle and business-orientated facilities. These features are included in the new office space to allow greater and more convenient options for employees.
The Capital has grown into the business hub of Liverpool inner-city over recent years with efforts made to create a world-class, cosmopolitan working district. The resurgent commercial district of the city was one of the key attractions for the UK Border Agency in deciding on the location, which it hopes will further showcase Liverpool as a city of cooperative business partnerships and efficient working processes.
The relocation is set to save UK taxpayers up to £10 million according to the UK Border Agency North West division’s director of operations Eddy Montgomery, who claims the more efficient new offices will enhance the organisations capability to deliver an enhanced and timelier level of service while making internal communications more accessible.
The Liverpool centre will continue to carry out its existing roles of managing several thousand files on citizenship applications along with standard law enforcement, asylum claims and issuances of ID cards.
