Former Housekeeper for Lady Scotland Charged with Emigration Offenses

It now seems that the former housekeeper of the attorney general, Lady Scotland, has just recently been charged with a series of emigration offenses. This information comes from the Crown Prosecution Service.

The housekeeper, Loloahi Tapui, is accused of using a false passport. She has also been charged with fraud and overstaying her visa. The lady was charged as she answered bail and will appear before the City of Westminster magistrates court on December 7th.

Just back in September, Lady Scotland was fined £5,000 for employing a housekeeper who had no right to be working in the UK in the first place. The attorney general, which is Britain's most senior law officer, said that she had checked relevant documents, but had not kept photocopies of them.

Alexander Zivancevic, who is Tapui's husband, was cautioned for assisting unlawful emigrants. However, the Crown Prosecution Service said that he would be facing no further charges of any kind. If Tapui, who is from Tonga, is found guilty by the crown court then she could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. The maximum sentence for holding false passport is two years. It is six months and a fine of £5,000 for overstaying a visa.

Lady Scotland had fired her housekeeper on September 16th after she was confronted with newspaper reports suggesting that Tapui had no right to work in the UK. Lady Scotland did apologize for this event and was backed by Gordon Brown despite calls for her to resign. More information about this case will unfold after the hearing.
