Suspected Illegal Emigrants Leap From Ferry and Swim Towards Shore

New reports now show that two suspected illegal emigrants apparently leaped from a Channel ferry as it neared the coast at Poole, Dorset. After jumping from the boat the two suspected illegal emigrants started to swim towards shore.

The first alarm went off when one of the men, who was apparently wearing a wet suit under his clothing, was spotted on the exclusive Sandbank's peninsula, drenched in stormy weather. A rescue operation was finally launched after the suspected illegal emigrant indicated that he had jumped from a boat with another man and two women. All of whom where thought to be Russian.

The search was later called off after it was established that the second man had already made it to shore and had run off. The other two women remained on the ship and arrived in Poole from the French port of Cherbourg around midnight.

Anne Marie Clark, from the lifeboat charity RNLI, said that the man on the beach did not speak English, but did indicate that he had been with three other people. She went on to say that there were squalls and winds with 60 to 70 mph gusts. The men must have been very desperate to even consider jumping off the ferry and trying to reach shore in these kinds of conditions.

Later on, after the man was taken to a hospital and an interpreter was found, more of the story was revealed. Apparently the men were illegal emigrants who had stowed away on a boat. The men had paid a lorry driver, but their was some kind of altercation on the ferry. The second man has yet to be found, but they are sure he made it to shore.
