As many people have more than likely heard, Gordon Brown has chosen to clamp down on emigrants. This has come in a few different forms. One thing that Brown has chosen to clamp down on is student visa abuse. However, he is also closing the door on 250,000 skilled catering, care, and engineering jobs to non European overseas workers starting next year.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has now promised that these sectors would be taken off the official list of shortage occupations as soon as employed and training bodies can provide sufficient qualified recruits. It was around this time that Gordon Brown chose to talk about his widespread stop to the abuse of the student visa system.

It now seems that an official review will look at raising the minimum level of courses for which a foreign student needs to get a visa. He also wants to introduce a mandatory English language test and block overseas students from working part time in temporary jobs that could be filled by young Britons. By pointing out these new changes, Gordon Brown wants to place Britons first.

Just after this big speech, the Home Office published a draft emigration bill, which is designed to be enacted after the general election. This new 243 page bill would be the eighth major piece of emigration and asylum legislation since Labor came into power back in 1997.

The bill overall is proposing new changes in the emigration procedure. This includes the replacement of the deportation process with a general power to expel failed asylum seekers and illegal emigrants. The people deported would be banned from returning to Britain for a fixed period of time or even indefinitely.
