In an attempt to increase their national security, China has taken what many believe to be extreme measures to remove any immigrants from their country before the start of the Olympics. Tougher vista rules were implemented causing a large number of foreign citizens to leave China and head to somewhere else. Many of those forced to leave are not sure of the exact cause or reason, but nonetheless find themselves leaving the country they had come to call home.
While most countries tend to market their friendliness and openness in the coming months before hosting the Olympics, China has found themselves in a public hot bed raising concerns about its friendliness at a time when thousands will be going to see the Olympics.
Citing security as the reason for its new breakdown on foreign citizens, Beijing has also stated that foreigners will be banned from participating any demonstrations or political events that would be considered detrimental to China’s politics. The response by potential tourists has been extremely noticeable as festivals for music as well as culture have also been cancelled for non specific security reasons. Within April alone, Tourism had already started to show a decline that will only be expected to continue, with 5.3% less people visiting than last year.
In response to the recent rigid visa rules, American and European governments have written letters directed to the Chinese government in hopes of getting a reason for the current lockdown and express their concerns of the impact of such actions.
