A British nurse who fell to her death from a sixth floor flat in Jeddah will finally be buried next month in Yorkshire, some thirty years after the incident.

Helen Smith has lain in a Leeds hospital mortuary for three decades, with her body as evidence as per the requests of her father, 81-year-old Ron Smith. However, while still maintaining that there was foul play in the accident Ron Smith has decided that his daughter should be given an appropriate burial. The father has been insisting for thirty years that there was a cover-up by Saudi and British officials and still maintains his position. His lengthy battle for an inquest into the case ushered in new laws pertaining to those Britons who suffered unnatural or violent deaths abroad.

Ron Smith said that his ex-wife had convinced him to do the proper thing by Helen while he was still alive and that by taking emotion out of the decision he was able to agree, albeit while still carrying on the fight to find out the truth.

Saudi officials claimed that Helen Smith had been in a passionate encounter when she fell from the balcony along with Dutch seaman Johannes Otten who was impaled on a fence close by. The police rounded up large numbers of people for questioning who were all released, fuelling conspiracy theories.

Ron Smith made the case a media scandal when he insisted that his daughter had been raped and murdered, linking the cover-up to politicians, civil servants and even the CIA.
