Home Secretary Admits Emigration Mistakes

It now seems that Alan Johnson, the home secretary, has come forward and admitted that the government has made mistakes when it comes to handling emigration and counter terrorism. Johnson went on to say that the backlog of unreturned foreign prisoners and unresolved asylum applications was ignored for way too long.

Many communities have very legitimate concerns about the strain on jobs and other services due to this. Alan Johnson noted that Labor has struggled to contain the huge surge in people fleeing conflict zones over the past decade.

Alan Johnson also went as far as to say that some of the counter terrorism proposals made after the July 7, 2005 bombings were too draconian and not the right way to handle things. Either way, Johnson, at his first major speech on emigration, insisted that labor had not pursued an open door policy.

He continued that any kind of rational debate about emigration had to recognize that there were communities disproportionately affected by emigration. It is here where people had very legitimate concerns about the strain that the growth in the local population had placed on jobs and other kinds of services.

Alan Johnson added that he feels that the UK is far more successful now at tackling emigration than most of its North American and European neighbors. Although this is something that the UK has had to work very hard to get, it's something that they can pride themselves on now.

Experts say that although the emigration record is not perfect, steps have been taking to make it as perfect as possible. That is something that many countries cannot say.
