Failed Deported Iraqi Emigrants on Hunger Strike
The failed asylum seekers that were brought back to the UK were taken to a detention center. It was here that nearly 50 asylum seekers have chosen to go on a hunger strike. Most of the people taking part in the hunger strike were people who were on board the deportation flight last week that the Iraqi authorities turned away.
However, the Home Office said that the center was operating normally. A spokesman said that there is no suggestion that a protest is taking place at the detention center. The Home Office went on to say that the reason why the detainees were sent back to the UK is a matter for the Iraqi government.
A statement that was released by the International Federation of Iraqi Refugees said that the people on strike said they have been in detention centers for months and years, and their cases are not being handled professionally. They went on to say that the officials treat them like they are in prison, yet most of them have never committed any kind of crime. Thus, they are going on hunger strike until they are released.
