Just recently, a failed deportation took place. The deportation was suppose to involve taking failed asylum seekers back to Iraq. However, once the Home Office officials arrived in Iraq with the failed asylum seekers, the officials claim that members of the Iraqi army boarded the plane and told them never to bring people back by force again. It was at this point that the Iraqi commander asked which asylum seekers would like to come back to Iraq or go back to Britain. Since most of the detainees were being brought back by force, most chose to stay on the plane and go back to Britain.

The failed asylum seekers that were brought back to the UK were taken to a detention center. It was here that nearly 50 asylum seekers have chosen to go on a hunger strike. Most of the people taking part in the hunger strike were people who were on board the deportation flight last week that the Iraqi authorities turned away.

However, the Home Office said that the center was operating normally. A spokesman said that there is no suggestion that a protest is taking place at the detention center. The Home Office went on to say that the reason why the detainees were sent back to the UK is a matter for the Iraqi government.

A statement that was released by the International Federation of Iraqi Refugees said that the people on strike said they have been in detention centers for months and years, and their cases are not being handled professionally. They went on to say that the officials treat them like they are in prison, yet most of them have never committed any kind of crime. Thus, they are going on hunger strike until they are released.
