Iraqi Asylum Seekers Claim Abuse After Failed Deportation
New allegations have been brought to light by Iraqi asylum seekers. They are claiming that racist taunts and operational chaos was very present during the failed deportation attempt to Baghdad by the Home Office. Sources say that three of the men that were put on the UK Border Agency’s first flight to the Iraqi capital last week were beaten by British security guards. It has also been noted that there was no Arabic translator present during the deportation.
Reports go on to show that the commander of the Baghdad airport was so infuriated by the unexpected arrival of the chartered plane last Thursday that he threatened to set fire to the plane if it did not leave within two hours. Thus details of the operation, which did involve 40 failed Iraqi asylum seekers and 100 private guards, suggests that the deportation ended in nothing more than a humiliating retreat.
Of course, the security company that was involved in the deportation of the failed asylum seekers have denied all of the allegations of mistreatment and went on to say that they did not receive any complaints. One thing is for sure right now, and that is the fact that Iraqi’s government is hardening its line against enforced returns to Iraq.
The commander of the Baghdad airport said that he did receive a message from his boss that their was an Italian flight that was making its way to land. However, he was not told that it was carrying deported Iraqis. The commander said that if he had know, that he would have never let the plane land.
