UK Government Sued Over Man Wrongfully Arrested on Holiday

It now appears that the UK government is going to be sued by a Congolese university lecturer who was apparently wrongfully arrested during a holiday visit to the UK. The man, Jean Pierre Djimbonge, age 52, was held just after he left a flight to Northern Ireland. He now thinks that he has been a victim of unfair treatment by emigration officers. He claims that these emigration officers just simply focus all of their attention on non-whites.

The man that was arrested and taken to a dentition center was traveling with all of the appropriate travel documents that are required by the UK government. This lecturer was released just last week after he was finally able to engage lawyers to make representations on his behalf.

The chairman of the home affairs select committee, Keith Vaz, said that officials may have to review their procedures for communication with detainees. He noted that it seems ludicrous to actually transport a person in detention between three different emigration centers only for him to finally be released without any kind of charges. This is a waste of our time and the detainee's time.

Keith said that it was a very terrible experience. He went on to note that he was handcuffed and treated like a criminal for doing nothing wrong but simply visiting the UK. He noted that he also has heart and diabetes problems, and this made the experience even worse. This has brought up the question if this is how the UK is planning to treat all of their visitors. He said that he never expected to be spending his holiday locked up in Scotland, England and Northern Ireland.
