UKBA launches Cheshire immigration team

The UK Border Agency has launched a new immigration team to deal with issues across the Cheshire community. Formed one month ago, the new team is part of a UK-wide network of integrated support offered by the UKBA. According to the Cheshite team’s director, Liz Weston, the two-fold goal of the initiative was to challenge the negative stereotypes that exist of immigrants whilst promoting a safe and cohesive county.

Though still in infancy, the team has been working alongside police and local businesses to establish a good networking base which will cover all areas of the county, not just the bigger cities. Halton has seen the most effort to date as the team tackles the task of serving infringement notices and raising awareness of their role. The group has been working hard to establish the needs of local partner organisations and how best the UKBA can assist. The UKBA hopes that by dealing with a broad cross-section of the public it can become a stronger presence and deterrent in the fight against illegal immigration.

This will involve directing educational facilities and employers in how best to manage their role in the points-based system. By raising awareness prior to action the UKBA hopes to contain potential breaches before they escalate. To that end they have devoted a great deal of time into educating business owners in rules surrounding immigration along with increased law enforcement and support in assimilation for those already accepted under the scheme.
