UK HSMP Pleases Politicians
Several political groups seemed to happy with a recent court ruling that brings aide to thousands of visa holders in the immigrant program directed at higher skill workers. The future of these people being allowed to remain in the UK has been uncertain until the HSMP ruling.
The program is part of the new five tiered immigration system that is designed to allow foreign migrant workers or professionals to enter the UK for certain job positions. Potential workers must first accumulate a certain number of points based on factors such as their age, past income, and different education achievements.
Most of the changes were first installed late almost two years ago by UK authorities which gave many current visa holders little time to get the necessary points. Controversially, the UK also made the changes applicable to those already in the UK when it was time for them to renew their current visa.
However, the changes were then turned over by a High Court ruling that decided the original system should be enforced and that workers already in the country on the current system should remain here based on the conditions originally offered to them.
Home Affairs spokesperson for the Conservative Party felt the ruling was good saying it was only fair to the many migrant skilled workers in the UK now.
Immigration Minister Liam Byrne defended their previous actions by saying they gave current migrants plenty of advance warning about the rule change and gave them time to make adjustments. Apparently the judge did not agree and the rule was changed back to its former guidelines.
