UK Border Agency Raids Chinese Restaurant

A South Lakeland restaurant is now facing a big £40,000 fine. This fine comes after the UK Border Agency discovered four illegal workers there. The UK Border Agency had raided the Amber Court Chinese Restaurant at Main Street, Grange over Sands, after receiving a tip. There they arrested a 26-year-old Malaysian man and a 50-year-old Chinese man. Also at the restaurant, the UK Border Agency found two other Chinese nationals, ages 38 and 22. However, these men were granted emigration bail while more inquiries continue.

After finding the four men, the Amber Court Chinese Restaurant was served with a Notice of Potential Liability, unless it can provide the evidence that the correct right to work checks had been given on the four men. For every worker that the restaurant cannot prove that it did the correct right to work checks, it will be fined up to £10,000 per illegal worker.

The director of the UK Border Agency, Eddy Montgomery, said that the UK is not going to tolerate any illegal workers within its borders. He went on to say it's things like this that undercuts the British wages and exploits vulnerable workers. As long as the UK keeps offering illegal jobs, the UK will be a very attractive place for illegal emigrations. Thus, they have to put a stop to the employers that refuse to play by the rules.

The arrests took place at the restaurant on July 23. These arrests come at a time when the UK is doing a massive reform of its emigration system.
