Emigration Officers Arrest and Deport Groom Just Before Wedding
Apparently the groom, Randel Allan, had been living in Quinton after having overstayed his six month visitor visa. The man was pulled out of a taxi just 15 minutes before the planned celebration. This normally happy scene came to a standstill when the UK Border Agency swooped in.
The bride to be, who was still in her cream wedding dress, was taken to the UK Border Agency's Solihull headquarters, where she was questioned along with Allen on what was suppose to be her wedding day. The bride was reported to be very upset having to give up her special day.
A spokesman for the UK Border Agency said that the couple was said to be genuinely in love, and not just marrying to secure residency in the almost wedding last Friday. If the UK Border Agency would have caught up to the 29-year-old man just a few minutes later, he would have been legally entitled to remain here. The man could have just applied for leave to stay in the UK based on the fact that he was married to a British national.
When being questioned at the UK Border Agency headquarters, Allen admitted to living and working in the UK under an expired visa. He has now been taken to the emigration detention center where he will remain until he is deported back to Jamaica.
