UK Says it Has Foiled Over 20,000 Illegal Emigration Attempts

Alex Braham

New figures that have been released show that the battle to protect the UK border is increasing. These new stats show that 20,000 attempts have been made by emigrants to enter Britain illegally. This is a huge jump in the number of illegal emigration cases when compared to the 7,500 cases that were seen in 2004.

However, the number of illegal emigrants attempting to get into the UK does not stop there. Another 9,000 emigrants were stopped in Dunkirk, Belgium, Paris, and Coquelle. It is not yet known how many of these emigrants were on their way to try and outwit the UK border forces.

These numbers show a clear picture of the increase in the number of emigrants that think that they have a better chance for a good life in the UK. The Home Office and UK Border Agency is having to do everything they can to keep these illegal emigrants out.

Just this year, emigration officers came across 13 Afghanis, as well as two Iranians, that were hiding in a lorry load of light bulbs. The lorry was stopped at Calais before it boarded a ferry to cross the Channel. This gives an example of some of the ideas that emigrants come up with to try and sneak into the UK.

The crisis in Calais, which has been a temporary home to thousands of emigrants that are trying to make their way to the UK, has gotten much worse in the recent weeks. This has been very apparent after the big crack down that has been placed on this area.
