UK to Use Fingerprints with Visas
The system utilizing fingerprints went into operation months ahead of schedule in about 100 countries. Already the government has proclaimed it a success with over 400 cases of identity switching caught.
The Border and Immigration Agency states that hundreds of thousands of people have voluntarily given their fingerprints. They say the accuracy of the system is good; over 9,000 applicants that have been been fingerprinted before in connection with false immigration cases or asylum institutions in the past.
Immigration Minister Liam Byrne said officials believe the general public wants stronger enforcement of borders and the residents want the illegal immigration stopped and that all newcomers should be held to account for their actions by deporting offenders where necessary.
The UK has been increasing tough on immigration guidelines and the new points based system to be implemented in phases this year will completely solve the problem, but they hope it will curtail it somewhat.
The Tier 1 system includes; highly skilled migrants, investors, and entrepreneurs who can migrate to the UK if they score the required number of points based on various requirements in each specific category.
The GHSM category Tier 1 is similar to the current program – the Highly Skilled Migrant Program. The most significant difference being removing all provisions which provides easy scored points for those with MBAs from the best schools across the world.
