UK Illegal Emigrants and Amnesty

Right now, a big question in the UK is whether to allow amnesty for illegal emigrants that are living in the UK. Many experts have pointed out that there are pros and cons on both sides of the court.

First of all, with more than 700,000 illegal emigrants living in the UK, it would cost a lot of money to deport them. It is said that it costs the British government almost £11,000 just to send one illegal emigrant back to their country. Thus, the cost of deporting all illegal emigrants would cost upwards of £5 billion.

Also, the Home Office points out that it would be unlikely that the government could find and replace all the illegal emigrants in the UK. Thus, the Home Office feels that it may be a better idea to just use this money to increase border security so other emigrants from outside can not join the ones that are now located in the country already.

Other experts also point out the fact that many illegal emigrants are willing to do the more unpopular jobs, like cleaning offices late at night and farm work. Just getting rid of them could be very damaging to the economy, which is already weak.

On that same page, others say that getting rid of the illegal emigrants would be more helpful. Taking jobs away from illegal emigrants would actually encourage emigrants to come to the UK that are not illegal. Also, people who enter the country without paperwork are breaking the law, and the government should not allow that to be fine.
