Iraq war veteran waiting to hear back regarding visa status

Cadmiel McFee who came to England from St. Vincent in the Caribbean was a member of the Royal horse Artillery for seven years and served two tours in Iraq.  Since leaving the military behind he has filed for a visa that will allow him to stay in the country with his girlfriend and their child.

Until the Home Office approves McFee's visa application he is unable to work in the country.  McFee is also ineligible to collect any benefits.  In order to fast track his visa application he paid £950.  He has already been waiting for three months to hear back on the status of his visa application.

Of the ordeal McFee said "The Home Office has said there is no time limit for how long it could take. I have served this nation and want to settle in this country to look after my girlfriend and son, but we have been left in limbo."  He added that "I've been waiting three months now and a decision could come tomorrow, or it could still take months more.  I just want to know either way."

In response a spokesperson for the UK Border Agency said that visa applications are "are considered on their merits as quickly as possible.   We do not allow individuals to undertake paid work until their application for leave to remain has been granted as this would create a pull factor for those who want to come to the UK for economic reasons."
