Change made to the new Canadian Experience Class immigration program
Back in August the Canadian government had announced plans for a new type of immigration program. This program called the Canadian Experience Class would allow migrants to become permanent residents of Canada. A new change has been made to this program which is expected to be available beginning on the 17th of September. Originally the program required applicants to be residents of Canada in a temporary status. The change made to the new program allows temporary residents and former Canadian residents who meet the requirements to apply for the new Canadian Experience Class program.
Diane Finley who is Canada’s Immigration Minister said “With the Canadian Experience Class fully in place, Canada will be more competitive in attracting and retaining individuals with the skills we need.” Canada has strong competition for foreign skilled labour with the United Kingdom and Australia.
“It, along with other recent improvements to modernize the immigration system, will go a long way in bringing Canada in line with its global competitors while further spreading the benefits of immigration into smaller centres across Canada,” added Finley.
The new Canadian Experience Class program allows students from foreign countries to apply for residency upon graduation. Students need to meet other requirements including a certain amount and type of work experience. Skilled workers from foreign countries who currently reside in Canada are also eligible to apply for residency with the number program. The new program is intended to help Canada remain attractive with skilled foreign labour.
