Immigration raids on businesses in the UK continue
Nearly 30 immigration and police officers conducted the raid. One of the illegal immigrants tried to pass himself off as a German citizen. Questioning by one of the immigration officers in the German language revealed the man did not understand even the most basic questions. Currently all 6 illegal immigrants are in the process of being deported back to their home countries.
The Regional Director for the UK Border Agency, Tony Smith, said "We will not tolerate illegal working. That is why the UK Border Agency is investing more money in enforcement and forging ever closer links with the police. Illegal working is unfair on honest employers who recruit staff with the right to work in the UK and who pay them a proper salary. That is why the rules are getting tougher."
"Employers who don't play by the rules will get struck off our register, lose the right to recruit staff from outside Europe, face on the spot fines and potentially end up in jail," added Smith.
Smith also encouraged any employer who has questions regarding how to prevent employing any illegal immigrants to call the Border Agencies Employer's Hotline.
