Immigration Benefits British Economy

The British economy has seen great benefits during the last decade from the high levels of immigration. As a result of the high immigration levels, has seen both its inflation and interest rates lowered, says a new report issued by city-based think tank The Work Foundation Today Britain.

According to the report, UK immigration has decreased shortages in skills and labour areas and that the economy has been kept on a stable growth path. "On the available evidence of the UK's ageing population and with fewer young people entering the job market, it means that a fair and flexible policy of managed migration is essential if the economy is to continue to grow." said David Coats, the foundation's associate director of policy and also author of the report.

The report praises immigration's affect on the UK, also stated that in 2007 fewer people came from central and Eastern Europe than in the previous two years. This means that immigration to the UK should be promoted in other countries as well, and as a result keeping inflation and interest rates low.

At a monthly press conference, Prime Minister Gordon Brown said that UK immigration had added six billion pounds to the economy, which is a substantial boost to the economy. He also noted that most British businesses that have faced labour shortage had benefited from being able to recruit more widely from skilled labour.
