Emigration figures show no signs of decreasing
According to the Office of National Statistics 4,000 Britons emigrate abroad each week, the highest level of mass departure the UK has seen in 50 years. The National Statistics office stated that New Zealand, Australia and Canada are popular emigration destinations for young professionals and skilled workers aged between 25 and 45.
Robinsons International, a moving company conducted a survey to investigate the reasons why so many Britons plan to emigrate to New Zealand, Canada, the US and Australia. Their survey showed that the uncouth and ‘lout’ culture of Britain and the rising living costs were positioned as main reasons behind British emigration. 7% of the people surveyed were moving abroad due to pressurising jobs becoming more demanding. 76% of the people surveyed stated that they planned to emigrate before securing a job in their chosen destination.
Managing Director of Robinsons International, Anthony Robinson, stated that “It’s always interesting to see how trends change over the years, and perhaps not surprising that so many people are looking for the better standard of living offered by other countries. Even the most idyllic villages in Britain are under pressure from rising populations.”
According to the Office of National Statistics the reasons behind this mass movement of 4,000 Britons weekly is both ‘running to’ better and increased opportunity other countries have to offer and ‘running from’ the decreasing quality of life Britain presents to many people.
