Most liveable city on the planet is Melbourne

A study by the Economist Intelligence Unit has resulted in Melbourne, Australia being considered the most liveable city on the planet. The Victoria state capital grabbed first place after it scored highly across five categories – infrastructure, education, culture and environment, healthcare and stability.

Second place went to Vienna, with the Canada’s Vancouver being voted in at third most liveable city in the world. Two other Canadian cities, Toronto and Calgary took fourth and fifth positions respectively.

The Australian cities of Adelaide, Sydney and Perth also made it into the Economist Intelligence Unit’s top-ten.

At the bottom of the table were Dhaka in Bangladesh which secured 140th place, Papua New Guinea’s Port Moresby in 139th place and Nigeria’s Lagos which was voted in at number 138. Although London has just hosted an extremely popular Olympic Games, the UK capital was only able to clinch 51st position on the list.

The Emigration Group’s director, Paul Arthur, said he was not surprised by the results. He added that all of the cities in the top-ten offered affordable housing as well as excellent job opportunities and fabulous weather. He went on to say that they were all destinations which attracted people looking for an alternative place to live outside of the United Kingdom.
