Emigrating To Australia News: Disillusioned New Zealanders Seek Jobs In Australia
Last weekend, around 6000 people attended the Oz Jobs Expo, held in Auckland, where Australian firms were headhunting New Zealander expertise and experience.
Judging by the long lines for the $15 per ticket event, it appears that many of the companies will have zero problem landing new employees among those who admit to feeling tired with New Zealand and say the pay, lifestyle and job opportunities are much better in Oz.
The jobs expo is the third held in 18 months. Director Jason Clayton says the numbers of people attending each one had been relatively consistent.
However, those attending the most recent appeared "more prepared to move" and "better matched" in skill, he said. Those who attended were seriously considering a move instead of just going to look and see, said Mr Clayton.
The number of Kiwis emigrating to Australia hit a record 53,000 during the year leading up to February. However, the joblessness rate in New Zealand and the new tax breaks in Australia are expected to lift that figure.
