Australian Northern Territory welcomes migrants

As reported by Australia Magazine, immigrants to Australia will be given a warm welcome in the country’s Northern Territory after the approval of a new agreement. The Chamber of Commerce of Australia’s Northern Territory claims that the new regional migration deal will be especially helpful for smaller businesses which lose workers over the next five years to the resources boom.

The Northern Territory will be the foremost jurisdiction to negotiate the deal with the Commonwealth to manage the predicted boom, which is predicted to require nearly 20,000 new workers. Chris Young, who is Chamber Chief Executive Officer, claims the new system should be faster and easier than applying for a 457 visa, which currently employs temporary foreign workers.

Mr Young said the new scheme would speed up the application process and shorten the window in no more than three months. Smaller employers, who can demonstrate that they have genuinely tried to find local employees, will be able to enter the immigration market and very quickly get an approval to bring in foreign staff.
