New Zealand citizens receive more good news from the British

Last month it was reported by the British Home Office that plans to require New Zealand citizens to obtain a visa in order to visit Britain were scrapped. Currently New Zealanders enjoy visa free visits to Britain for up to six months. Now it is being reported that despite drastic changes to British immigration policies they will not scrap their ancestry visa. The possibility of getting rid of the ancestry visa program and the tightening of immigration policies in Britain comes about as the British government is trying to curb an illegal immigration problem in the country which is putting unneeded strain on resources and public services.

What this means for New Zealanders is that those that have grandparents with British ancestry will be able to apply for an ancestry visa which would allow them to work in Britain for a period of up to five years.

New Zealand's Prime Minister, Helen Clark, said regarding the news "The two decisions mean that New Zealanders will continue to enjoy good access to Britain. They follow extensive consultations between British and New Zealand officials. I also raised the matter personally with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown." Clark also noted that "It reflects the huge goodwill towards New Zealand in Britain."

Good relations between the countries benefit both as each profit from tourists and skilled labor leaving the country. New Zealanders will also be able to continue the tradition of visiting their ancestral homeland with ease.
