Danish Prime Minister Fires Immigration Minister

It now seems that the immigration minister of Denmark has now been fired by Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen. Apparently the immigration minister was fired for failure to grant stateless Palestinians citizenship in Denmark.

The immigration minister, Birthe Ronn Hornbech, was said to be in violation of United Nations conventions. Thus, the prime minister choose to let her go after weeks of controversy related to this issue. Apparently he had received a report regarding the rejection of applications from Palestinians.

See, back in 1961, the UN said that stateless children that were born in a foreign country had the right to choose citizenship where they were born until their 21 birthday. This was something that Denmark is signed into as well.

According to reports, Birthe apparently rejected criticism that she had received for her role in the issue. She said that the rejection of the Palestinian people seeking citizenship was made under the watch of previous ministers.

Of course, it does not look like Birthe is going to be getting any backing on this matter. In fact, two other government officials, who's names are not going to be disclosed, confirmed that she was made fully aware of the citizenship issue back in 2008.

It now looks like Development Minister Soren Pind is at the front of the line to replace Birthe. Pind is a 41-year-old politician who was appointed to his current post by Prime Minister Rasmussen. On top of this, it looks like Pind will be able to retain his current position as well. Just when this move will take place has yet to be announced.
