Business in the United States not in favor of immigration raids

While the United States government is working hard to crack down on illegal immigrants by making it more difficult for them to find work many companies are against the policy as they have become dependent on the cheap labor. Various groups which represent the employers are working hard to lobby against legislation proposals which would further penalize employers for hiring illegal immigrants.

In a few states already these employer lobbyist groups have successfully worked to defect immigration reforms which were directed forcing employers to run all new hires against a federal data base which would help validate the paper work for the new hire. Instead of cracking down on the hiring process and penalizing the employers these organizations are suggesting the focus should be on promoting legal immigration not documentation checks.

While they have had some success in stopping this form of immigration legislation they have not been able to completely wipe it out. For example the state of Mississippi earlier in the year made it a felony if a company is found hiring illegal immigrants. In addition to the states laws cracking down the federal government signed into law the legislation requiring all federal contractors to use a new application called E Verify to ensure any government worker has proper status in the United States. This year already there has been over one hundred and seventy five different pieces of immigration reform proposed to the different state governments.
