UK Home Office Announces the New British Passport

Apparently the UK Home Office has just recently revealed a redesigned British passport. This new passport comes at a time when the Home Office is trying everything in its power to cut down on international fraud. This new passport is going to be issued starting October of this year. The pages of the new passport will depict well known UK scenes. This will include the White Cliffs of Dover, Gower Peninsual and Ben Nevis.

The security of the passport has also been significantly upgraded as well. According to the chief executive of the Identity and Passport Service, Sarah Rapson, this new design will allow the UK to stay ahead of fraudsters.

She went on to add that, through the combination of both physical and electronic security features, the UK passport remains, to this day, one of the most secure and trusted documents in the whole world. It meets international standards.

The new design features a chip, which stores the passport holder's details. This removes the details from plain sight. This makes it harder to replace the chip without damage to the passport cover. Any damage could easily be spotted and investigated further.

The secondary image of the passport holder will also be printed onto the observation page. This will be covered by a new transparent covering. This cover includes several holograms to protect the holder's personal details.

In order to bring the UK in line with the rest of the world, the personal details section of the passport will be removed from the back of the passport. It will now be transferred to the second page. This new passport will replace the current UK ePassport, which came out back in 2006.
