UK Sees Tighter Visa Rules to Help Crack Down on Emigrants
It now seems that a British minister said on Wednesday, when defending the tightening of visa rules for students coming to the UK, that the proper policing was needed to crack down on bogus colleges and check inflow of emigrants. Minister for Universities and Science, David Willets, said that they are committed to controlling the total number of emigrants coming into the UK.
He went on to say that they will be cracking down on emigrants by cracking down on bogus colleges in Britain. These bogus colleges encourage people to come to the UK who are not even students. There have been problems with a lot of foreign students who were not competent enough as students yet they still entered the country claiming to be so.
Willets said that there have been problems, not linked back to India, in the past where sometimes the necessary controls every nation must apply have been properly applied. Many people are claiming to come to Britain to study and are not doing so. Thus, proper policing should stop this. The country values its links between Indian students, academicians and their British counterparts. He hopes more British students come to India for studies.
In February of this year, the UK announced new measures that’s major aim was to cut the number of student visas issued abroad. This was to prevent misuse of the emigration system. Under these brand new measures, successful applicants from India and other countries outside the European Union will have to meet a higher bar on the English language requirement. On top of this, students taking courses below degree level will be allowed to work for only 10 hours a week instead of the previous 20 hours.
