Six Illegal Emigrants Caught Trying to Enter Britain
The men were found by specially trained detection dog Sam. This dog was able to alert officers who were working in Dunkirk that people were hiding in the lorry that was heading to Bradford. Apparently there were three Iranian men, two Vietnamese men, and one Iraqi man in the lorry.
The men were, of coursed, removed from the vehicle before it entered into the UK. They were handed to French authorities. After the men were removed from the lorry they were allowed to continue their journey.
The head of the UK Border Force, Brodie Clark, said that the UK Border Agency has officers that are working 24 hours a day in Calais. They are using specially trained dogs that are doing wonders finding hidden people. These men are also using the latest technology to identify and prevent illegal emigrants from reaching the UK. This is just yet another excellent example of a successful detection by their highly trained staff and wonderful dogs.
A spokesman also said that the driver and haulier may be liable for a fine if they cannot prove that they took the adequate steps to secure the load. This load stopped at 6:20am on June 30th. If the company cannot prove that they took steps to prevent this, they could be charged a fine for each illegal emigrant found on the lorry.
