Central America emigration on the rise
Mathew WaltersSurrounded by constant civil unrest that has turned into violence complimented by unstable natural situations in the forms of earthquakes and hurricanes many living in Central American countries are deciding to pack their bags and head elsewhere. The increase in emigration from the Central American countries started to increase back in the 1980’s and has not stopped. In addition to the natural and civil issues causing many to leave, the economies of the countries have also been struggling causing many to leave to find employment. The situation has grown that currently there are over two million Central Americans who have emigrated north to their neighbors in the United States.
A report that was completed by University of Massachusetts Boston Mauricio Gaston Institute for Latino Community Development and Public Property determined that the largest growing immigration population in Massachusetts from all over the world are coming from Central American nations of Gautama, Salvador and Honduras. The report also showed that in the one state alone in the last 18 years there has been a ninety eight percent growth in the population of immigrants from those three Central American nations alone.
The majority of those who emigrate to the United States or other locations tend to send back home the majority of their pay checks to support their families who did not make the move. Many families have become depending on this income to survive in the weak Central American economy. With the slow down of the United States economy, many are concerned about how much more money can be sent home as the well is starting to dry out.
