23 Illegal Emigrants Arrested in the UK During Emigration Crackdown

As many people already know, their has been a big emigration crackdown in the UK. Just recently British emigration officials arrested 23 Indians living as illegal emigrants. The arrests are all part of a bigger operation that was being conducted in west London and the east England town of Norwich.

22 of the Indian men were part of a group of emigrants that were arrested following an enforcement swoop. This swoop took part on a dairy in Acton, West London. Another Indian whose application for asylum was refused was arrested along with three Sri Lankans in Norwich.

The UK Border Agency is now going to take steps to remove these men from the UK. They were arrested for a variety of emigration offenses. Some of the offenses included illegal entry, working in breach of their visa conditions, and of course overstaying their visas.

It also appears that the dairy has now been warned that it faces a fine of up to almost a quarter of a million pounds for employing the men. The head of the UK Border Agency's Ealing Local Emigration Team, Assistant director Olivia Nuttall, said that illegal working is not a victimless crime. It has a very serious impact on communities and it undercuts wages. It takes jobs from families in the UK.

The Indian citizen, whose application for asylum was refused, was found working illegally in a news agent's shop with three Sir Lankans. Emigration checks revealed that the two members of the staff, plus the newspaper delivery person who had just returned from this rounds, were all in the UK illegally.
