UK immigration changes concerns financial services
Starting Monday the first of the five tier immigration policy that has recently been passed in the United Kingdom will take affect. The first tier removes the existing and highly thought of program for high skilled workers. This tier will now make the immigration procedure easier for high skilled workers to gain access to the United Kingdom depending on certain restrictions and factors such as skill, age, English language and qualifications.
While the plan is in place to make it easier to gain access for high skilled workers, many fear it will do the opposite and cause issues with the economy. Jamie Holmes who works with globalvisas.com commented about the fears related to the new laws, "Leading companies around the world are constantly highlighting the need to attract the best and brightest employees no matter where they come from. Therefore these companies in Britain feel that they can't compete due to the stringent new laws.'
While the new system has gained praise for its simplicity in changing an eighty visa program into a simple five tier one, it has many who feel it will not work in the long haul. The largest concern for the new system is the emphasis it places on the ability to speak the English language. Many feel that it will turn away and not grant entry to those skilled worked in foreign countries who have not picked up the English language. This concern will be mitigated later in the year when the second tier is released which allows companies to grant sponsors for employees.
