Apparently a teenager who set fire to a home of an asylum seeker has been ordered to be detained for 15 months. Natasha Shields, age 18, screamed abuse as she pushed flaming tissue paper through the letter box of the house in Stockton, which was occupied by a Kurdish family.

According to the Teesside Crown Court, the young girl admitted to reckless arson. The court went on to describe this event as nothing more than an ugly episode of racial harassment. Zanko Hamamin and his housemates filmed the attack from inside their home in Camden Street last July.

The good news was that there was no one that was seriously hurt in the attack. The court did hear that Miss Shields, of Moorbeck Way, Ormesby, was drunk at the time of the arson attack. It has also emerged that she had a previous conviction for arson for trying to burn down a child’s home when she was just 12.

In an attempt to save Miss Shields, her lawyer, Andrew Turton, went on to describe her as a very damaged and vulnerable person. He also said that she was a person that would benefit from an alcohol treatment course.

Judge Peter Browns was the one that told Miss Shields that the incident on July 26 of last year was an ugly episode of racial harassment. Experts assume that, due to her young age, Miss Shields got off with only 15 months of being detained.

Experts did go on to say that she will need to seek help. This is now her second attempt at an arson attack. There is apparently something going on in the mind of this young teen, and she needs help.
