New UK Government to Put Annual Cap on Emigrant Numbers
New UK Government to Put Annual Cap on Emigrant Numbers
The emigration policy of the new coalition government will actually seek to put an annual limit and new curbs on emigrants from India and other countries outside the European Union. As part of the understanding between the Conservative and Liberal Democrats, it is the Conservative policy that has been adopted by the new coalition government.
The Liberal Democrats' emigration policy of region-based emigrants and amnesty to illegal emigrants who had been in the UK for 10 years or more has been given up during the protracted negotiations that preceded the formation of the new government. The overall goal of the Conservative party is to reduce net emigration to the levels that were seen in the 1990's, or to tens of thousands a year instead of hundreds of thousands a year.
The Conservative party said that they will introduce an annual limit on the number of European Union economic emigrants that are allowed to work in the UK. They will take into consideration the effects of a rising population and what effects it has on public services. The policy also commits the new government to introduce important new rules to tighten up the student visa system. This system, at the moment, is the biggest hole in the UK Border control, according to experts.
