Civil Rights Activist From Iran Could Face Death if Deported from the UK

Reports of an Iranian civil rights activist who is due to be deport form the UK today have been flooding the internet. Apparently this civil rights activist could face the death penalty and fears of being murdered by her family in an “honor killing” if she gets sent back.

Bita Ghaedi, age 34, fled Iran to the UK back in 2005 to escape a forced marriage and in fear of her family discovering she had a secret lover. She has since spoken out against sharia law, forced marriage and human rights abuses in her homeland. She has been filmed criticizing the regime for TV channels widely available across the Middle East. She is currently in Yarl's Wood detention center awaiting deportation.

Her partner, Mohsen Zadshirr, from Barnet, is a member of the Iranian opposition who gained political asylum in 1999. He says that if she gets deported then her life is finished. There is a very strict traditional code under which Iranian women are suppose to adhere by. Not only that, but she has brought “shame” on her family by having a relationship with a man who was not her husband. She has also participated in anti-government protests, which have grown more vociferous after the disputed 2009 presidential election results.

Apparently, if she gets sent back, the Iranian government can and more than likely will arrest her immediately. This is because she has been out of the country without the permission of her husband or father. In Iran, adultery is punishable by stoning and “honor killings.” More information on this deportation will be released later.
