Emigration Raid Leaves Restaurant Owner in Shock
Apparently, when the owner of a restaurant came into work one Friday earlier this month, he expected it to be just a normal night. However, this so-called normal night was ruined when he found out that four of his staff were missing after a raid by emigration officials.
Reports show that six men were arrested at Radlhuni in Flackwell Health on February 12th. Four of these men, since the raid, have been bailed out. One of these men has also been departed by the UK Border Agency. The renaming man is in custody of the UK Border Agency and has the status of “pending removal.”
The owner of the restaurant, Akthoraz Miah, managed to keep his doors open for that evening after making some very urgent phone calls to get some extra staff in. This 39-year-old man said that it would have been nice had the emigration officials at least given him some kind of warning.
Mr Miah went on to say that they just suddenly turned up, and he did not know anything about it. He said that he was out during the day and only found out about it when he came back to the restaurant that evening. He said that he has gotten some of these guys back, but he has had to hire two new staff members.
The restaurant has, of course, been served with a notice of potential liability for employing people who had no right to work in the UK. The restaurant could face a fine of up to £70,000 unless it can prove that the correct right to work checks had been carried out.
