London Embassies Using Emigrants As Modern Day Slaves
London Embassies Using Emigrants As Modern Day Slaves
The emigrant workers claim that they were lured to the UK with promises of a good life. However, now they are beaten and forced to sleep in the hallway. Some reports even say that the females are sexually abused.
One of these workers recalled how she had fled from her employer, a South African diplomat, after being maltreated for months. She said that she was not being fed properly, and she was not given a day off or paid for six months.
A charity for migrant workers, Kalayaan, has referred at least nine cases involving diplomats to a government scheme to combat trafficking in the past 12 months. The charity said that there is significant evidence that emigrant workers are being trafficked into the UK by diplomats and are being abused and exploited.
UK Home Secretary Alan Johnson will be presented with evidence of trafficking involving diplomats. He will face calls by all the party groups on stopping the trafficking of women and children to safeguard such workers.
Overall, the UK is working around the clock to try and stop human trafficking. However, the UK is also dealing with other emigration problems. A lot of these emigration problems are stemming from new changes that have been made to the emigration system. These new changes have caused tons of problems and confusion. A lot of this confusion and frustration is being felt by overseas students who wish to study in the UK.
